This beautiful. private building is actually named after the horse that won the Somershire Stakes in 1875 - Bath’s most famous race in the 19th Century. The winning jockey, Tom Cannon welcomed his first child on the same day he rode the horse to victory, and also wanted to remember this moment, by naming his son Herbert Mornington Cannon.

This tribute to the winning horse continued with Herbert later becoming known by his affectionate nickname ‘Morny’. He then went on himself to become a famous jockey, with records still held to this day. We’re exceptionally happy to be able to offer guests such a rich history and talking point, whilst still providing top of the range suites.
