Around Bath

A Historic, Scenic City

The honey-coloured city - named for the golden Bath stone used in its Georgian terraces - has been the backdrop to many famous scenes.

We feel privileged to be a part of this historic city, and to have hosted racing here since 1728. Perched 780 ft above sea level, Bath Racecourse is the highest flat racecourse in Britain, and offers panoramic views over the World Heritage city. Only two miles ‘up Lansdown’, and just 15 minutes from the Roman Baths, it’s a great excuse for a perfect weekend away in this pretty city.

Racing On The Hill

Few racecourses can match the panorama from Lansdown, the Somerset countryside rolling away to the horizon. The going stays quick and firm through the summer. The undulating hill makes specialists of certain horses, so course form counts here.

The hilltop comes alive right through the calendar, not just when the horses are running, with live music nights, fireworks and family days out.

A Day At The Races, A Stay In Bath

Whether you’re planning a day or two in Bath, or a much longer stay, there’s plenty to do and see.

  • Walk The Royal Crescent - The Georgian sweep that played the streets of Bridgerton. Stroll the great Georgian arc and the green lawns of Royal Victoria Park below it.

  • Step into the Jane Austen story - The Jane Austen Centre celebrates the years she spent in the city.

  • Soak at the Roman Baths - 2,000 years of history at the heart of the city. Or take the waters at the modern Thermae Bath Spa just around the corner.

  • Go Film Spotting - Pulteney Bridge (Les Mis), the Royal Crescent (Bridgerton), and Parade Gardens & Bath Street (Wonka).

  • Afternoon Tea done properly - Round it off with afternoon tea on the Royal Crescent - the most Bath thing you can do.
